We are raised on the myth of the straight line. We’re told that if we just do the work, follow the steps, and ‘let go,’ we will arrive at a place called Healed.
But I’m realizing that we are growing up without actually knowing what healing is. We hear people talk about it like it’s a distant city they’ve visited, but their descriptions don’t match the weather we’re experiencing.
The truth? You don’t know what healing is until you feel it in your own bones. And it doesn’t feel like a finish line. It feels like:
- Realizing the weight in your chest is a little lighter today.
- Choosing yourself when it would be easier to choose the person who hurt you.
- Accepting that the ‘dark shades’ are just as much a part of your story as the gold ones.
I didn’t write Shades of Love, Hurt and Healing to give you a map. I wrote it to tell you that if your path is winding, backwards, and messy—you aren’t doing it wrong. You’re just finally feeling it for yourself.
A Shade of Truth
“…even in my chaos and imperfection, I am still worthy of love, grace, and acceptance—starting with my own.”
As I wrote in the beginning of this journey, I spent my whole life trying to be perfect. Now, I choose to be flawed.
If you are currently feeling your way through the dark, know that you are not lost. You are becoming.
